A
good sense of humor is essential for dealing with
all the negative stress and anxiety producing hassles
and obstacles involved in life. I don't go a day
without finding something to laugh about including
myself. The Internet is a never ending source of
laughter. Sending cards is my favorite but rental
movies and books are other ways to bring laughter
to patients and as a patient return the "gift" to
your caregiver. They need help through this too.
I find comfort in varieties of art, music, sights
and sounds of nature. I stay focused on what I can
do rather than what I can not do. I use an On Screen
Keyboard that came with my computer, using the hover
feature. I write letters to my grandsons who are
to young to remember me. I make silly little Flash
movies for them and record their voices.
I have a pet bird named
Crackers. She's a Red Tail African Grey. We
are NASCAR fans and my driver is
Dale Jarrett so I'm teaching her to say
"Dale! drive the big brown truck!"
Life with ALS is a pervasive feeling of demoralization.
I hope you find comfort in your life with new understanding
that love never dies, never disappears but exists
complete and unbroken forever.
