03/11/2008: ""Debbie Downer""
Hi everyone. I know that I have been neglecting this part of my web-site but I have been busy updating news and other parts of Focus on ALS and I have also been spending alot of time on the Patients Like Me web-site reading and updating my profile. All PALS should create a profile as it is a valuable resource.
I have been feeling awful for the past three weeks. Not only do I have another freaking sinus infection! My head hurts constantly and now I have an abscessed tooth! My dentist says I need a root canal but of course he doesn't do those and wants me to go to a specialist! I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars now! I have ALS! My luck I will die before the novacaine wears off! If I had known I was going live this long, I would have taken better care of my teeth and would have had braces. Now on top of all of that, I am certain I have rosacea! My face is red, itchy, skin on my cheeks is tight feels like a sunburn, my eyes burn and get watery. I look like a rabied chimpmunk! I will never be seen in public again! My doctor is referring me to a dermatologist. Oh great, another specialist. Maybe I will be able to get out some day to see him. We just had the biggest one-day snowfall in recent history around here. It is pretty to look at but wheelchairs don't move in it. Maybe better weather will help me feel better. Where are you SPRING?????????????Debbie

Hello Debbie - I sent this to the e-mail section of your website, but thought I'd send it here too. Hope you don't mind the duplication.
My name is Peter Gladis. I am the Brother-in-Law of an amazing 25 year ALS Survivor (like you), Mariah Fenton Gladis. If you haven't heard of her, Mariah was diagnosed with ALS in 1981 at the age of 35, and given a 10% chance to live 2 years. She went on to marry, have 2 wonderful college-graduate children, and become one of the country's most renowned, and still active, Gestalt Therapists.
Your work has amazing parallels to Mariah. With the active encouragement of her clients, friends, and family, Mariah agreed to capture her life story and her voyage through life with ALS. Her approach to this disease, combined with her incredible insights as a therapist, makes for an inspiring, and useful story. Her book, "Tales of a Wounded Healer" was just published. Here's its website: http://www.wounded-healer.com/.
Let me state... I have absolutely no financial interest in this book, nor am I paid in any way whatsoever for this effort. I simply admire what she has done, the good she has accomplished in her life, and the spirit with which she has attacked this disease - that I believe with all my heart that others - with and without ALS - can benefit from reading her story.
I am writing you today to ask that you - and your BLOG partticipoants - take a look at her new book - and perhaps give it some exposure. But mostly to ask your advice as to how we in her Family can effectively get the word out. Any ideas for me?
Thank you for the great work you are doing.
Very best regards,
Peter P. Gladis
